Embroidery size guide by placement
A left chest logo is usually 3.5 to 4 inches wide, a cap front is about 2 inches tall, and a jacket back is 10 to 12 inches wide. Use this guide to choose a size before you order.
| Placement | Typical size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Left chest (polo, shirt, scrubs) | 3.5 to 4 in wide, 2 to 3 in tall | Most common placement. Keep text at least 0.25 in tall. |
| Cap front | Up to about 4.5 in wide, 2 in tall | Limited by the cap frame and center seam. |
| Cap side | 1 to 2 in | Simple shapes and short text work best. |
| Cap back | 1 to 1.5 in tall | Often a small logo, flag or website. |
| Sleeve | 2 to 3 in | Check the sleeve width and seams before sizing. |
| Jacket back or full back | 10 to 12 in wide | Large designs are priced by stitch count. |
| Patch | 2 to 4 in | Needs full coverage and a border. |
These are common sizes, not strict limits. Your hoop, garment and design can change them. If you are unsure, add your garment to the order form and we will suggest a size.
Size questions
What size should a logo be for embroidery?
For a left chest logo, 3.5 to 4 inches wide is typical. Caps hold about 2 inches in height, and jacket backs are usually 10 to 12 inches wide.
What is the smallest text I can embroider?
Around 0.25 inch (6 mm) tall for clean, readable lettering. Smaller text usually fills in and becomes hard to read.
How many stitches does a logo have?
A typical left chest logo is often in the range of 4,000 to 9,000 stitches. Large jacket backs can be many times that.
